In the week we were given to do research, I decided to go to London to visit new galleries and exhibitions. I spent four days in London staying with my friends in Camden and Tottenham Court Road. My favourite exhibitions were the ones at the Parasol Unit which is on Wharf Road. There was a solo exhibition on that presented works by painter, sculptor and performance artist Jannis Kounellis. Kounellis embarked on his artistic career by creating some of the most radical works of the 1960s.
He often combined the inanimate and animate , he boldly incorporated things such as propane torches, plants and animals as integral if not vital parts of his works.
What I enjoyed most about this exhibition most was that it showed the connection between history and modern day, Kounellis work was so fresh and ahead of the time it looked like it was work that had been made in this era. His work was about industry in that time , and he used a lot of the elements such as wood and coal in his work but thus combining them with a minimalistic monochrome theme.
